A landmark above Avlabari
The Holy Trinity Cathedral, known as Sameba, rises on Elia Hill in Tbilisi. Its tall dome gives the city skyline a distinctive religious and architectural focal point.
Its story through time
Completed in 2004, the cathedral was designed by Georgian architect Archil Mindiashvili and funded through donations. It is a modern religious building rooted in the traditions of Georgian church architecture.
Architecture and character
The design combines a soaring dome with layered volumes, stone façades and detailed ornament. Above-ground and underground spaces form a complex composition, showing how a contemporary cathedral can draw on established architectural traditions.
